Three Rivers Festival announces diverse 2010 music and entertainment lineup

There will be something for everyone when it comes to the music and entertainment for this year’s Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival.

Festival officials announced this year’s music lineup at Headwaters Park, where the festival’s Sweetwater Sound music stage will reside, today. The highlights of the week will be Star 88.3 Music Sunday, a concert on July 11 sponsored featuring national recording artists Jars of Clay, NeedtoBreathe, Plumb and Jonny Diaz; and a concert on Thursday, July 15, sponsored by K105 (WQHK) featuring national artists Steel Magnolia and Josh Thompson. A pair of inventive tribute bands are sure to draw big crowds as well – Pink Droyd, a Pink Floyd cover band on the festival’s opening night, Friday, July 9; and Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band on Friday, July 16.

Three Rivers Festival parade to celebrate city’s championship teams

The theme for this year’s Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival is “Fun in the Sun,” but the opening PNC Parade may have a theme of its own: “We’re Number 1.”

That’s because both of Fort Wayne’s 2009 championship sports teams, the TinCaps and the Komets, will serve as honorary grand marshals of 2010 Festival’s PNC Parade, which will be held Saturday, July 10, in downtown Fort Wayne.

Festival officials announced the teams as grand marshals at a press conference on Wednesday at Parkview Field. Both teams won championships in their respective leagues in 2009—the Komets brought home the Turner Cup title last spring, and the TinCaps followed suit by winning the Midwest League title this past fall.
